Understanding the Whole Child
A comprehensive neuropsychological evaluation is a thorough assessment designed to understand how a child thinks, learns, communicates, regulates emotions, and navigates everyday life. Rather than focusing on a single diagnosis or concern, a comprehensive evaluation examines multiple areas of development to create a complete picture of your child's unique strengths, challenges, and needs.
Families seek comprehensive evaluations for many reasons, including questions about autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, learning disabilities, intellectual giftedness, developmental delays, anxiety, emotional or behavioral concerns, executive functioning, social communication, or when previous evaluations have not fully explained a child's difficulties.
Our goal is not simply to determine whether a child meets criteria for a diagnosis. We strive to understand how different aspects of development interact, how those differences affect daily functioning, and what supports will help your child thrive at home, in school, and within the community. Every evaluation is individualized and designed to provide meaningful answers and practical recommendations that guide next steps for families.

The Evaluation Process

Every evaluation begins with a parent consultation. We discuss your child's developmental history, medical background, educational experiences, previous services, and the questions that brought your family to seek an evaluation. Prior records—including school evaluations, IEPs or 504 Plans, therapy reports, and medical records—are carefully reviewed to help tailor the assessment.

Assessment is individualized based on each child's age, developmental level, and referral concerns. Depending on your child's needs, the evaluation may include assessment of:
Cognitive abilities
Attention and executive functioning
Learning and academic skills
Language and communication
Memory and processing skills
Visual-motor and fine motor development
Adaptive functioning
Social communication
Emotional and behavioral functioning
Autism-specific assessment, when indicated
Standardized testing is combined with clinical observation, parent interviews, rating scales, developmental history, and record review to provide a comprehensive understanding of your child's functioning.

No single test provides all of the answers. We carefully integrate information across multiple assessment tools, observations, and sources to understand how your child's strengths and challenges fit together. This comprehensive approach often provides clarity that cannot be obtained through isolated testing or brief screening measures.

Following the evaluation, we meet with parents to review the findings in detail. We explain the results in clear, understandable language, answer questions, discuss diagnostic impressions when appropriate, and review individualized recommendations tailored to your child's needs.

Families receive a detailed written report summarizing assessment findings, diagnoses when appropriate, individualized recommendations, educational considerations, therapy recommendations, and practical next steps. Our reports are designed to serve as a roadmap that can be shared with physicians, therapists, schools, and other professionals involved in your child's care.
Fees and Payments
Early Mind Institute is an out-of-network, private-pay practice. Payment is due at the time services are provided. If requested, we are happy to provide a superbill, which is a detailed receipt that includes the information many insurance companies require when considering reimbursement for out-of-network psychological services.
A superbill typically includes the provider's credentials, diagnosis and procedure codes, dates of service, and fees paid. Families may submit this document directly to their insurance company to request reimbursement for eligible out-of-network benefits.
Because every insurance plan is different, reimbursement is not guaranteed. We encourage families to contact their insurance carrier before the evaluation to ask about their out-of-network mental health or psychological testing benefits. Questions you may wish to ask include:
Does my plan include out-of-network benefits for psychological or neuropsychological evaluations?
Is preauthorization required?
Are there any diagnosis or service limitations?
What percentage of the fee is eligible for reimbursement?
Is there an annual deductible that must be met before reimbursement begins?
While we are happy to provide the documentation needed to support reimbursement requests, Early Mind Institute does not bill insurance directly or communicate with insurance companies regarding claims.

Every evaluation is individualized. Fees are based on your child's age, referral questions, anticipated scope of testing, clinical complexity, and the amount of time required for interpretation and report preparation. You will receive a personalized fee estimate before scheduling your evaluation.

A comprehensive evaluation involves substantially more than the testing sessions themselves. While families see the time spent together during appointments, a significant portion of the evaluation takes place behind the scenes. Depending on the complexity of the referral, a comprehensive evaluation often represents 15–25 or more hours of professional work, including record review, individualized test selection, scoring and interpretation, integration of findings, preparation of a comprehensive written report, and a feedback session. The evaluation fee reflects the time, expertise, and clinical judgment required to provide meaningful answers and practical recommendations tailored to your child.

Comprehensive evaluations are designed as an integrated clinical service. Test selection, interpretation, and recommendations rely on information gathered across multiple sources and cannot be separated into individual components. For this reason, we do not offer "à la carte" testing or remove portions of an evaluation solely to reduce the fee. If your concerns are more focused, an Individualized Consultation or Second Opinion may be a more appropriate service, and we are happy to help you determine the best fit.

A deposit is collected to reserve your evaluation appointments, with the remaining balance due before your feedback session. Following the feedback appointment, you will receive your comprehensive written report through our secure client portal. Most reports are completed within 2–4 weeks after the final testing session, although timing may vary depending on the complexity of the evaluation. We will review the anticipated timeline with you before your evaluation begins.
