About Early Mind Institute

Our Philosophy

At Early Mind Institute, we believe every child deserves to be understood as a whole person. Development does not occur in isolation—it is shaped by each child's unique strengths, challenges, relationships, and environments. Our mission is to provide thoughtful, individualized neurodevelopmental care that helps families better understand their child and make informed decisions with confidence.

We recognize that every family's journey is different. Some parents are seeking answers for the first time, while others are navigating complex diagnoses, educational planning, or difficult treatment decisions. Rather than offering a one-size-fits-all approach, we tailor our services to each family's goals and questions. Whether through consultation, comprehensive evaluation, or second opinion services, our focus is on providing practical recommendations that translate into meaningful support at home, in school, and throughout everyday life.

As a boutique practice, we intentionally maintain a limited caseload to ensure every family receives personalized attention, thorough evaluations, and direct access to the psychologist providing their care. We believe quality takes time, thoughtful listening, and collaboration, and we are committed to supporting families with compassion, clinical excellence, and evidence-informed practice.

Finding Clarity in a Complex Journey

If you're reading this, chances are you've already been trying to find answers.

Maybe your child is struggling with attention, behavior, learning, anxiety, friendships, or emotional regulation. Perhaps a teacher has raised concerns, your pediatrician has recommended an evaluation, or you've simply had a feeling that something isn't quite right.

So you start searching.

One provider recommends speech therapy. Another suggests occupational therapy. A friend tells you to see a developmental pediatrician. Your child's school recommends a psychological evaluation, while another family mentions neuropsychological testing. Everywhere you turn, there are different opinions, different specialists, long waitlists, and unfamiliar terms. You may find yourself wondering:

"Where do we even begin?"

"Which services does my child actually need?"

"Are we doing enough—or are we overwhelming our child with too many appointments?"

"How do all of these recommendations fit together?"

These are some of the most common questions we hear from families.

At Early Mind Institute, we believe parents shouldn't have to become experts in neurodevelopment just to help their child. While we cannot provide every service your child may need, we can help you understand the bigger picture. Our role is to thoughtfully evaluate your child's unique strengths and challenges, explain the options in clear and practical language, and help you prioritize the next steps that are most likely to benefit your child and family.

Sometimes that means recommending a comprehensive evaluation. Sometimes it means reassuring families that an evaluation may not yet be necessary. Sometimes it means helping interpret previous evaluations, reviewing treatment recommendations, or identifying which supports are likely to have the greatest impact. And sometimes it means recognizing that your child may already have the right services in place.

Our goal is not simply to provide a diagnosis or a report. We strive to be a trusted guide—helping families make sense of a complex system, navigate decisions with confidence, and build a thoughtful plan that supports each child's unique developmental journey.

Meet the Founder

Dr. Shuzi Meng is a Harvard-trained pediatric neurodevelopmental psychologist who specializes in helping children and adolescents with autism, ADHD, learning differences, developmental delays, executive functioning challenges, anxiety, and other neurodevelopmental conditions. She is also an Instructor in Psychology at Harvard Medical School, where she remains actively involved in teaching and clinical education.

Through her training and years of practice in Boston's leading children's hospitals and academic medical centers, Dr. Meng has developed extensive experience evaluating children with a wide range of developmental and learning needs. She believes that a great evaluation should do more than provide a diagnosis—it should help families understand their child, identify their strengths, and provide a clear, practical plan for moving forward.

One of Dr. Meng's greatest strengths is helping families navigate the next steps after an evaluation. Having trained and practiced within Boston's pediatric healthcare community, she is familiar with many of the region's specialists, therapy programs, educational resources, and community services. Her recommendations are tailored not only to each child but also to the resources and opportunities available to families in the Greater Boston area.

Dr. Meng founded Early Mind Institute to provide the kind of care she believes every family deserves—thoughtful, personalized, and never rushed. By intentionally maintaining a boutique practice with a limited caseload, she is able to spend the time needed to truly understand each child and partner closely with families throughout their developmental journey. Dr. Meng is active in the Winchester community where she resides with her loving husband and fun-loving toddler son.
